Going on a Mastodon ride
This post was originally published on Blogger. It has been slightly modified to avoid link rot.
Everything changed when a rich, elongated muskrat took over Twitter. Many employees were fired, many divisive opinions about the takeover were written, and many users even flocked to other alternatives to the bird app.
When I heard the news about the mass resignation and layoffs in the company, I promptly saved my remaining poems there and deleted them. Being worried about the possible closure of the social media platform (fortunately, it did not happen as of this posting), I decided to avoid tweeting anything there for a while. I was finding a social media platform that is similar to Twitter when I stumbled upon Mastodon.
Mastodon is a free, open-source social network where each instance runs independently (like a server in the office) while still having a choice to interact with other instances. One of those instances is Mastodon.ART, a community dedicated to artists who want to share their works regardless of the medium.
After several days of waiting for registrations to open, I finally made it there! I always wanted to join Mastodon.ART not only to share my creations, but also to write random thoughts about anything that I am interested in. Here also goes behind-the-scenes content, announcements on my creative projects, and updates on personal life.
So far, I have a good experience with Mastodon. For me, it is like tweeting in the bird app but with a less toxic environment. Here is where I started to extensively write alt text for my digital art, which is helpful for accessibility. I would see myself being more active on Mastodon than on Twitter.
