Loreleice's Virtual Writing Pad

Breaking up with my X (for now)

This post was originally published on Blogger. It has been slightly modified for style and online archival.

For the past three years, I have been keeping a somewhat sparse presence on Twitter (which is now called X). Back when I tweeted poems on the platform, I barely got any engagement. So, I transitioned into posting fan art (especially for VTubers1) and OC2 art in hopes for a potential engagement boost.

However, that would change when that one guy took over and screwed things up for the ex-bird site. When it happened, I considered leaving the platform for good. But then, I thought that I could still survive this tumultuous place, just with minimal posting activity.

There are several reasons why I wanted to leave Twitter. Among them are rate limits and AI. I dislike the idea of restricting the number of tweets that I can see every day, as well as getting my hard work stolen for potential AI art generation. As written on Section 2.1 of the website's Privacy Policy from September 29, 2023, the website may use my content for machine learning and artificial intelligence purposes. Honestly, the latter was my last straw for the platform.

Because of what is happening on Twitter, I decided to deactivate my account there so that I can take an indefinite break from that chaotic place. It was a tough decision to make, but I had to leave my ex-bird site presence behind for a while. Of course, I will miss scrolling my feed where I can feel a roller coaster of emotions, as well as getting enough exposure for my creations. It is just that I need to escape from the hellhole that has been burning for a long time.

Right now, I am still uncertain about my inevitable comeback on the platform.3

  3. Although I have returned on Twitter (under a different account), I rarely post stuff there due to that platform's enshittification. By the way, I refuse to call it X.
